Scope of advice — please read

Ask First HR LLC, a Colorado limited liability company trading as Ask First HR, provides human resources consulting. It is not a law firm, accounting firm, licensed insurance producer, or professional employer organization, and it does not provide legal, tax, accounting, or benefits brokerage advice.

Nothing on this website, and no communication from Ask First HR, constitutes legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship. Employment law varies by jurisdiction and changes frequently. Before acting on any matter with legal consequence — including terminations, classification decisions, accommodation denials, agency charges, reductions in force, and restrictive covenants — obtain advice from your own licensed counsel.

Ask First HR LLC does not process payroll, calculate or remit employment taxes, or file payroll tax returns. All employment decisions regarding your workforce remain solely yours.

Any figures, penalty amounts, thresholds, or legal requirements referenced on this site are provided for general information, were accurate to the best of our understanding when written, and may have changed. Verify against the primary source before relying on them.

What we collect

When you submit a form on this site we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, company, phone number, headcount, states of operation, and a description of your situation. When you book a call we collect what the scheduling tool requires. We also collect standard analytics data such as pages viewed, approximate location, referring site, and device type.

Why we collect it

To respond to your enquiry, deliver anything you requested, provide services if you become a client, and understand how the site is used. If you ask for the checklist, we may occasionally email you about matters affecting employers of your size. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works.

What we don't do

We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not disclose it to third parties except to the service providers listed below, or where required by law.

Service providers

We use third-party services to operate this practice, which may process your information on our behalf: website hosting, email and document storage, form handling, appointment scheduling, analytics, accounting, and e-signature. Each is bound by its own terms and, where applicable, by a data processing agreement with us.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don't become engagements are retained for up to two years. Client records are retained as required for legal, professional, and insurance purposes. You may request deletion at any time, subject to any records we're required to keep.

Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or unsubscribe from emails. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under state privacy law, including the Colorado Privacy Act.

Security

We use multi-factor authentication on all business systems, encryption in transit and at rest, a password manager for credentials, and role-based access limited to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously — we handle personnel data for a living.

Employee data

If you engage us and share information about your employees, you remain the controller of that data and we act on your documented instructions. Sensitive categories — medical and accommodation records, benefits enrolment, and Form I-9 documentation — are stored separately from general personnel information. A full data processing agreement is available on request.

Children

This site is not directed to anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Terms of use

By using this site you agree to these terms. The content here is provided for general information only and is not advice for your specific situation. We make no warranty that it is complete, current, or applicable to you, and we are not liable for any action taken in reliance on it.

This site is operated by Ask First HR LLC, a Colorado limited liability company. All content, copy, and materials on this site are owned by Ask First HR LLC. You may read, print, and share pages for your own internal use. You may not republish, resell, or use them to provide consulting services to others.

Submitting a form or booking a call does not create a client relationship. That begins only when both parties sign a written services agreement. Fees and packages described on this site are indicative starting points and are not offers.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Denver County, Colorado.

Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by everyone. It uses semantic HTML, keyboard-navigable controls, visible focus indicators, sufficient colour contrast, text that scales without breaking layout, and a skip-to-content link. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

If any part of this site is difficult for you to use, email [email protected] and describe the problem. We'll fix it and, in the meantime, get you the information another way.

Cookies

This site uses only what's necessary to function, plus analytics to understand which pages are useful. We don't use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. You can block cookies in your browser; the site will still work.
